About Tanjung Manis Port
Tanjung Manis (originally named Tanjung Manis) has a long history of being a port of calls for vessels to collect timber, mainly logs for export. In its heyday, especially in the 1960s and 1970s, active timber trades took place in Tanjung Manis. After a feasibility study has been carried out on the area, the State Government decided to develop a deep sea port at Tanjung Manis to kickstart the overall development of Batang Rajang/ Batang Igan area. Originally conceptualized as a timber processing zone, Tanjung Manis has flourished into a New Township serving as the economic hub for the central region of Sarawak.
Sarawak State Government has approved the establishment of the Tanjung Manis Port Authority (TMPA) on 19th April 2012 as a catalyst for international trade for the central region to support the SCORE initiative. TMPA is to serve as a planning and coordinating agency for the development of infrastructure and port facilities in accordance with the state’s development plan in Tanjung Manis After its establishment under the provisions of Port Authorities Ordinance, 1961 (Ordinance) on 19th April 2012, TMPA starts its operation on 2nd January 2014. The establishment of TMPA was designed specially to regulate port activities in Tanjung Manis through its approved port operator, Tanjung Manis Integrated Port Sdn. Bhd. (TMP) This arrangement is a first for the State Ports which traditionally plays the dual role of regulator and operator.
